The psychological and physical well-being of an individual can be significantly impacted by childhood trauma. It may also result in the individual feeling as though they are being silenced or are unable to express the events that have impacted them. For those who have experienced any form of trauma in their childhood, speaking about their experiences can be a source of shame or fear.
Consequently, it is important for those who have survived childhood trauma to understand that they are not alone and that there is support available.
It’s also important that people give survivors a safe space to speak up and believe them when they do so.
This is what the Survivor Strong podcast is all about. A voice for silenced survivors of childhood trauma.
Yvonne Sandomir is a force of nature. She was born and raised in the Deep South, and has experienced first-hand the intergenerational abuse cycle. Yvonne survived multiple traumas, but it was only when she began her healing process in July 2015 that she truly started living.
Since then, Yvonne has dedicated her life to spreading child sexual abuse awareness, education, and prevention. She wants to help break the cycle for future generations and ensure that no child ever has to suffer as she did. Yvonne is expressive and passionate about her work – you can see the fire in her eyes when she speaks about this issue.
Growing up, her abusive and traumatic family dynamic increased her desire and passion for being an instrument of healing. Her childhood environment thus encouraged her to pursue a life coach certification, and she was officially certified as a life coach in August 2020. She loves working with people who are looking to break free from their past and create a more positive future for themselves.
In 2021, following her certification, she published her first memoir titled “The Invisible Girl: A Memoir”. The book tells the story of how she overcame being sexually abused as a child. In April 2022, she launched her podcast, Survivor Strong.
Currently, she donates 10% of her annual book sales to Lauren’s kids (a charity that helps children who have been victims of abuse), is involved with ChildHelp in California, and is a former Guardian Ad Litem for The National Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA)/ and the Guardian Ad Litem (GAL) Association for Children in her current resident state of Florida.
To date, Yvonne has been married for eight years and is the mother of two grown daughters. As a lover of music and the arts, she enjoys expressing herself through painting abstract on canvas, singing, dancing, and spending time with her family.
Yvonne continues to remain driven- but this time, not for herself, but for her family. Although she still finds her childhood challenging and traumatic, she is on track to become the voice and inspiration behind those facing similar challenges.
